How to Choose a Sign System

A sign system in an important part of your design, as well as functionality, of your business. What should you look for when you are choosing a sign system? While every business has different needs and demands, here are the factors involved in making that decision:

Design

Signs are very noticeable by their nature. They are placed in locations that are visible and therefore should fit your interior design and complement it.
Choosing a low-grade, cheap signs is like coming to a wedding with a 99¢ plastic necklace.

While there are exceptions requiring a unique design, a modern, contemporary look that allows freedom of design to adjust the interior signs to the design is vital.

Variety of Sizes and Types

You may find the perfect door sign. However, there are no desk signs or projecting wall brackets of that same design, your sign system will look like a patched assortment of odd bits and pieces. Look for a comprehensive system that can cover signs from the parking lot to the employee’s desk. A system that has variety of sized and types will be easier to adjust to your interior and exterior design, as opposed to trying to fit other elements around it.

Ease of Installation

Choosing a sign system that can be installed (and un-installed) only by a professional is very limiting and costly. You want signs that you can put on and off using simple common tools that will save you precious time and money.

ADA Compatibility

There are a number of technologies available today to create compliant, ADA signage, each with its own special features and price. There are a number of technologies available today to create compliant, ADA signage, each with its own special features and price. It is important to make sure that you will have signage that complies with all the ADA regulations that are needed according to the ADA guidelines. Since those guidelines are subject to change every once in a while, you would be wise to choose a system that will allow those changes.

Ease of Update

Diamond may be forever, not signs. Take into account that they need to be updated and replaced periodically. Try to find a system that allows you to replace the sign’s text or background without the need of buying a new sign (let alone uninstalling the old sign and installing the new one), even one you can replace yourself. That would save you a lot of money.

Green Certificate

The trend of choosing environment-friendly products is spreading fast. For example, more and more government projects are required to be “green” certified, which in turn forces the suppliers (and their suppliers) to be certified as green in order to get the job. That in turn requires replacing older systems in your business with green systems that will prove care for the environment. You might need it as a requirement and might not…

Price

We are all bound by price limitations; however, the best system does not have to be the most expensive. Custom-made signs will cost accordingly, but if you find high quality sign frames that can be custom-designed with only change of graphics, that can save you a lot, because the signs themselves are not custom-made for you.
On the other hand, you don’t want the signs to look cheap. Yes, you can buy signs for $10 or even less, but remember – the sign represents you, and it’s there even when you’re not.
